Case Details
This 40 year-old woman was found to have cancer in her right breast. She underwent removal of both breasts (bilateral mastectomies) by a Fort Worth oncology surgeon. Dr. Kunkel reconstructed her breasts with tissue expanders. She required six months of chemotherapy after her surgery. The patient then received radiation of her right breast. In cases where patients require radiation, they typically have to wait about a year after the radiation is completed before undergoing additional breast surgery. In this patient’s case, her expanders were replaced with 605 ml round silicone gel implants 20 months after her mastectomies. The darker color of her right breast is an effect caused by the radiation. *Keep in mind that each person is unique, and individual results will vary.
